At Sleep Train, we’re lucky to be able give back to our communities year-round through the Sleep Train Foster Kids program. Our success is because of you! With the community’s support, we’ve donated over $4 million and 2 million essential items to foster care partners in the areas we serve.
Every year, we see an incredible outpouring of love and generosity from our communities, and this year was no exception. This Giving Tuesday, we’d like to give thanks for some of the sponsors and donors who made this year such a success. From donation drives and community events to Pajama Bowl and the Charity Golf Classic, it’s been a year of major giving from our communities and partner organizations.
If Giving Tuesday has inspired you to get involved with Sleep Train Foster Kids, please visit our program website to learn how you can help. Build a fundraiser page, host your own collection drive, spread the word through social media and more—there are tons of ways to get involved and make a difference in the lives of foster children. Thank you in advance for your support!
Year-round Donation Drives
We continue to see huge success from our year-round donation drives. Last year, thanks to our generous donors, foster children in our communities received thousands of essential items and little extras, including 34,200 pairs of cozy pajamas; 29,000 pairs of shoes; 19,400 clothing items; 14,800 warm coats; 152,600 school supply items; over $21,200 through our Dollar Drive for extracurricular activities; and 108,200 holiday gifts during the 2014 Secret Santa Toy Drive!
One of our favorite parts of the program is seeing community members hosting their own successful drives. There were so many heartwarming and memorable host-a-drives this year—like 4-year-old Ashton Brill, who used his birthday party to collect shoes for foster children. Or 9-year-old Lily in the Bay Area, who collected $3,000 to purchase toys for foster children in need. Lily even did all the shopping herself, negotiating discounts with retailers to stretch her dollars as far as possible.
We can’t forget Froggy 92.9 FM in Santa Rosa, who collected 2,000 school supply items through its annual Stuff the Bus event, or Brixton the Bulldog (and his generous human), who donated 50 stylish backpacks.
If you’re hosting a drive this year, let us know about it! We love hearing from community members and getting the chance to highlight your efforts!
Kings Collection Nights
Sleep Train hosted four Foster Kids collection nights at 2014-2015 Sacramento Kings games, resulting in hundreds of donations of pajamas, shoes and toys. These nights are an awesome opportunity for Sleep Train employees to interact with the community while collecting essential items for foster children. The first 100 donors at each game received two free tickets to a future game—we love being able to show our appreciation in this way! Thank you to the Sacramento Kings and our game-day donors for continuing to make these collection nights so successful.
Throughout the year, we partner with family-friendly productions and businesses to give community members a special incentive to donate. This year we worked with Sesame Street Live, Portland Thunder, Cirque du Soleil, Disney on Ice and many others to provide donors with discounted tickets to awesome events. Superstar partners like Wild Waves Theme Park and Trans-Siberian Orchestra even provided hundreds of complimentary tickets for foster families to enjoy, in addition to discounted tickets for our donors.
We appreciate our ongoing partnerships with these organizations and all of the donors who make these special events such a success.
Sleep Train Charity Golf Classic
The theme of our 2015 Sleep Train Charity Golf Classic was homecoming, and our guests and volunteers went above and beyond to show their spirit and enthusiasm for the cause. This year’s tournament raised an incredible total of over $1 million for foster children—a new fundraising record! This year’s proceeds benefit non-profit organizations that help foster children complete high school and pursue post-secondary education. A big thank-you goes out to all of our amazing vendor and media partners, our special guests and golfers, and all of our employee volunteers who made the day so successful!
Sleep Train Pajama Bowl
Pajama Bowl is our annual bowling fundraising hosted in Washington and Oregon. Teams of five dress up in PJs to bowl their hearts out and compete for prizes. This year’s Pajama Bowl raised more than $160,000, bringing our 10-year total to over $1 million! Event proceeds helped fund “little wishes” programs at 13 local nonprofit organizations, giving foster children access to special experiences like dance classes, school field trips, team sports, summer camp and more.
Thank you to all the bowlers who came out in their pajamas and brought so much warmth and enthusiasm to the event. A big thank you also goes out to our bowling alley partners and vendors who so generously sponsor the event and help make it all possible!
